The transfer window might be shut, but don't think the wheeling and dealing won't continue!
Free transfers can still be submitted to the FAs, plus there's always January to start thinking about. As always, you can see all the latest deals here.
Man United may offload Schweinsteiger
Manchester United could be set to pay up Bastian Schweinsteiger'scontract to the tune of £14 million in an effort to get the former Germany international off the wage bill at Old Trafford.
Schweinsteiger has been frozen out at United to the point that he has not been included in the team's squad photo for this season. The Manchester Evening News reports Jose Mourinho "is now working with United chiefs in a bid to release him from his deal nearly two years early" and they "are hoping to come to a deal which benefits both parties."
If a parting of the ways can be agreed it is claimed 32-year-old Schweinsteiger could make a move to Major League Soccer as a free agent.
Ancelotti thinks Lewa will re-sign with Bayern
Robert Lewandowski has been tipped to sign a new contract with Bayern Munich by Carlo Ancelotti amid reported interest from Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and several Premier League sides.
Speaking to L'Equipe, Ancelotti was confident about Bundesliga champions Bayern keeping hold of their star striker. He said: "I think he will sign a contract renewal with Bayern."
Last month Poland international Lewandowski became the quickest player in Bayern history to reach 50 Bundesliga goals, and with nine goals in seven games so far this season it is easy to see why he is in such demand.
Milan eye up United's Depay
AC Milan are looking to take Memphis Depay on loan after watching the 22-year-old struggle to adapt to life in the Premier League with Manchester United.
Netherlands international Depay has found his playing time restricted since Jose Mourinho's arrival at Old Trafford but Calcio Mercato reckons Milan, who have just been taken over by a Chinese consortium, would be willing to pay £24m to make it a permanent deal if the attacker impresses.
Depay has failed to recapture the form that led to United paying a reported £31m for his services in 2015. He arrived at Old Trafford as the Netherlands Young Player of the Year having scored 22 goals in 30 games for PSV Eindhoven as they won the Eredivisie title.
Tap-Ins
- Arsenal would have tried to sign Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid in 2014 had Arsene Wenger known he was available for transfer. Speaking ahead of the Gunners' Premier League game against Costa's Chelsea, Wenger was asked if he might have registered interested and, the Telegraph reports, he said: "Yes. I like him as a quality striker. I never thought he would leave Atletico Madrid at the time -- I was surprised."
- Pep Guardiola is set to offer Aleksandar Kolarov a new contract to extend his time with Manchester City, but he also wants to bring a new left-back to the club. According to the Mirror, the Serbia international, who is contracted to City until 2018, will begin negotiations shortly.
- Jesse Lingard is in line to earn a double-your-money four-year contract at Manchester United that will see him net £50,000-per-week. The Sun reckons 23-year-old Lingard has been in talks with the club for three weeks, but a deal has been agreed and Mourinho has given it his approval.
- Ronald Koeman says Everton could enter the transfer market in January to sign a replacement for Idrissa Gueye, who will represent Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations. The midfielder has made an excellent start to life at Goodison Park since joining from Aston Villa in the summer but the Liverpool Echo report he could miss games against Manchester City, Crystal Palace, Stoke City and Bournemouth as well as the Toffees' FA Cup third round tie.
