car accident ends the life of 10 gymnasts


The gymnastics world mourns, after a bus carrying 31 children and young gymnasts and three acrobatic gymnastics coaches are accidentara on Russian roads last December 4.

Gymnasts aged between 7 and 16 years old were returning from a competition when the bus hit a trailer. The accident killed 12 people, ten of them young gymnasts and two more coaches, while the rest of the passengers had serious injuries which were transferred to a nearby hospital to the scene.
The drivers of both units survived and although they were transferred to hospital, are to be detained, because the investigations so far shed both drivers broke traffic rules, which coupled with the appalling weather conditions resulted this fateful event.
Given the unfortunate events, the President of the International Gymnastics Federation Bruno Grandi, sent his condolences to the families of the victims and called on the international gymnastics community raise their thoughts in memory of the deceased youth.
